🏛️ Our Principles — 22 Commitments of TOGETHER OUR PEOPLE (TOP)
hese are not promises made for elections. They are convictions that shape how we lead, act, and serve.
1. A Just, Free and Inclusive Society
Together Our People stand for a Mauritius where every citizen, regardless of origin, class, religion, caste, or gender, lives in dignity and freedom. We reject all systems of oppression and privilege. We are committed to equal rights, inclusive participation, and shared responsibility in a democratic society.
2. Social Justice and Economic Dignity
We believe that a nation’s wealth must serve all its people. We advocate a mixed economy that rewards work and innovation while ensuring that no one lives in poverty or neglect. Together, we uplift workers, small entrepreneurs, planters, fishers, public servants, and artists.
3. Empowerment of Women
We assert that women’s rights are human rights. We pledge to:
- Eliminate gender-based violence and discrimination.
- Ensure equal pay and leadership representation.
- Support women-led enterprises and maternal health.
- Uphold dignity and justice for every woman, everywhere.
4. Youth First: Building on New Energy
Together Our People believe that youth are agents of change. We commit to:
- Reforming education for future-readiness.
- Supporting innovation, skills training, and entrepreneurship.
- Creating safe spaces for sports, culture, and civic expression.
- Giving youth a seat at the decision-making table.
5. Fight against Corruption
Corruption undermines trust, fairness, and progress. We will enact stringent laws, independent investigations, and transparency to ensure accountability in public office.
6. Fight against Drugs proliferation
Drug trafficking and addiction threaten the health and future of our society. We will fight against drug dealers, provide rehabilitation programs, and prioritize prevention to protect our youth from this devastating epidemic.
7. Engaging Our Diaspora
The Mauritian diaspora is an integral part of our national identity. We will:
- Create a Diaspora Council.
- Encourage diaspora investment and cultural exchange.
- Offer dual nationality rights and educational programs.
- Honour their role in shaping our global footprint.
8. Democratic Governance and Political Ethics
We aim to restore public trust in institutions. Our actions include:
- Enforcing anti-corruption reforms and transparency.
- Limiting terms in office and regulating campaign financing.
- Promoting merit-based appointments and inclusive governance.
- Decentralising decision-making to empower local communities.
9. National Unity through Pluralism
We embrace diversity as strength. Our nation thrives when all cultures and communities are respected. We will:
- Promote interfaith harmony and intercultural dialogue.
- Guarantee representation for all traditions and communities.
- Protect linguistic and cultural heritage.
- Preserve the secular, inclusive fabric of the state.
10. Education, Knowledge, and Culture
We commit to making education a right, not a privilege. Our vision includes:
- Strengthening public education and bridging inequality.
- Promoting vocational, digital, and creative learning.
- Encouraging free access to arts, literature, and science.
- Celebrating Mauritian heritage and global knowledge.
11. Health, Housing, and Human Development
A humane nation leaves no one behind. We will:
- Expand preventive, curative, and mental health services.
- Launch the “Home for All” initiative.
- Modernise public hospitals and localise care delivery.
- Strengthen social protection for the elderly, disabled, and vulnerable.
12. Environmental Justice and Climate Action
We are stewards of our environment. Our policies will:
- Transition to renewable energy and reduce fossil fuel dependence.
- Protect biodiversity, forests, marine life, and agriculture.
- Educate on sustainability and promote eco-tourism.
- Boost resilience through disaster preparedness and green jobs.
13. Technology, Science, and Digital Inclusion
Technology must be for the people. Together Our People will:
- Ensure affordable internet and digital literacy.
- Invest in ethical AI, cybersecurity, and homegrown tech.
- Promote transparency and freedom of expression online.
- Digitally transform public services while safeguarding rights.
14. National Sovereignty and International Solidarity
We defend our territory, including Chagos, Agalega, Tromelin, Rodrigues, and St Brandon. We advocate:
- Regional cooperation and African solidarity.
- Decolonisation and fair global governance.
- Trade relations rooted in mutual respect.
- Active participation in international organisations.
15. Internal Party Democracy
TOP leads by example. Our internal culture is:
- Transparent, participatory, and merit-based.
- Rooted in member involvement at all levels.
- Committed to gender parity and youth leadership.
- Guided by integrity, consultation, and accountability.
16. Truth, Transparency and Accountability
Our leadership is accountable to the people. We pledge open governance, full disclosure of public dealings, and independent oversight bodies to root out corruption.
17. Equal Opportunity for All
We fight systemic inequality with laws and programmes that give every Mauritian—regardless of background—a fair chance to succeed.
18. Protecting Native and National Languages
We support the protection, recognition, and promotion of Kreol Morisien, Bhojpuri, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Marathi, Mandarin, and other cultural languages that define our national identity.
19. United in Diversity
We cherish our diverse origins. Unity for us means equal respect, not forced conformity. Every citizen belongs equally to the Mauritian story.
20. Dignity for All
We believe that the dignity of the human person is sacred. Our economic and social policies ensure that no one lives in indignity, exploitation, or abandonment.
21. Clean Politics, Clean Country
We are committed to ending dirty money, cronyism, and manipulation in politics. We will raise ethical standards and lead by example in serving the public good.
22. Development That Works for People
Progress must benefit all, not just a privileged few. Our vision includes inclusive growth, access to infrastructure, rural upliftment, and sustainability for future generations.
